Minister Baird - July 2007

John Baird

Espace 400e, the official site of celebrations for the 400th anniversary of the city of Québec, located on Louise Basin, in the Old Port of Québec, will be at the centre of festivities. Through the Espace 400e project, facilities are being developed that will lend a festive air to Louise Basin in 2008.

An inviting place, perfect for exploring, meeting, and mingling, Espace 400e will be a permanent discovery centre for everyone. Exhibitions on immigration, the St. Lawrence River, and Parks Canada’s network of national historic sites will also be presented.

This project demonstrates the commitment of Canada’s New Government to make the Louise Basin area a part of the legacy of the 400th anniversary of the city of Québec. In 2009, the Espace 400e pavilion will become a Parks Canada Discovery Centre. Development of this site will provide the public with a lasting heritage.

As Minister of the Environment, I am delighted that these celebrations will take on their full meaning at Espace 400e, in a beautiful area of Québec City’s historic district. From June to September 2008, I invite you to this city for Québec’s 400th anniversary, which is sure to be an unforgettable experience and an opportunity to see history in a new light.
