Happy 400th Anniversary, Québec!
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is proud to take part in the 400th Anniversary of Québec City. Building on its 130‑year legacy, the RCMP salutes the longevity of this city steeped in history.
The RCMP is pleased to be one of the key elements for the security surrounding the 400th Anniversary of Québec City and the Francophone Summit to be held as part of the celebrations.
The RCMP, through its Protective Policing Services, will be responsible for the security of Canadian and foreign dignitaries as well as internationally protected persons. The RCMP has extensive experience in providing security for dignitaries. It is the RCMP's duty to ensure that the events unfold in a peaceful and safe manner.
The RCMP collaborates with its federal, provincial and municipal partners in order to provide the most effective security services during the events of the 400th Anniversary of Québec City.
The RCMP implemented in Québec in 1920
In 1919, Parliament voted to merge the Force with the Dominion Police, a federal police force with jurisdiction in eastern Canada. When the legislation took effect on February 1st, 1920, it was renamed the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Established in 1920 in the province of Québec, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was even back then tasked with the responsibility of enforcing some forty federal statutes. Today, the organization, represented by the "C" Division, administers and enforces more than 250 federal statutes and agreements. Over the years, the RCMP has evolved to reflect today's society. The RCMP team is becoming more modern and uses sophisticated and investigative work techniques. The mandate is broader and their reputation keeps growing even at the international level.
The Division's headquarters are located in Montréal. There are 15 detachments across the province, including in Québec City. The RCMP delivers many services witch are often supported through partnerships and integrated policing efforts throughout Québec and the South-eastern Ontario region.
Fighting against the Organized Crime
As part of the federal police service, the RCMP members are committing a lot of efforts in operations focused on reducing organized crime, financial integrity, the national security, border integrity and terrorism. We have specialized resources for our investigations and offer protective services to dignitaries.
