To mark the 400th anniversary of Québec City, the Government of Canada has undertaken projects to develop important sites in the city: Baie de Beauport, Pointe-à-Carcy, Bassin Brown and Espace 400e.
Canada Economic Development is responsible for the following three projects:
- Baie de Beauport
is a very popular place where young and old gather to participate in water sports or to enjoy the beach. The project's objective is to restore existing facilities and redevelop the site in order to enhance it with new spaces and areas for new types of activities. A total of $19.3 million is being invested to establish or upgrade zones for practising sports and aquatic activities, and to create a service building, a bicycle path, a buffer zone and a conservation area.
- Pointe-à-Carcy,
located in the Port of Québec, is in the heart of the Old City, an area rich in history and defined by impressive architecture. It is also the docking point for cruise ships. The architectural heritage project requires an investment of $16.4 million, mainly for the restoration of the outdoor performance venue, a new family-oriented park, an extension of the riverside promenade, an upgraded reception area for visitors from cruise ships, and enhancement of the Place de la Marine marchande with raised water features.
- Bassin Brown
is a historic site linked to Québec City's port. Under the $7.1 million project, the site will offer boaters an interpretation centre with a panoramic view of the Saint Lawrence River, a bicycle and walking path, a riverside promenade and a fishing area.
Parks Canada is responsible for the Espace 400e project:
- Espace 400e
, the main site for the celebrations, is located in Bassin Louise. A total of $24 million has been invested to restore the existing building and establish a new administrative centre that will house the Société du 400e.
